This is not good, my personal experience with GMO Corn is in the training and working with Hunting Dogs for 30 years. OK at this point will figure out way later for Buck needs help, what to do? Surgery can coast $5 to $10 thousand dollars and the tumors can come back, diet did not help because once again read the ingredients on the bag or can of food. Today’s pet foods, even premium brands, can contain toxins, and bad bacteria. Almost all use “meat by-products”; that is an industry term for anything other than meat. Many of the other ingredients are fillers like corn, wheat and barley. Which are prime sources for allergies, skin problems and other more serious ailments. Since the act’s passing, more than 250,000 people have signed a petition opposing the provision and a rally, consisting largely of farmers organized by the Food Democracy Now network, protested outside the White House Wednesday. Not only has anger been directed at the Monsanto Protection Act’s content, but the way in which the provision was passed through Congress without appropriate review by the Agricultural or Judiciary Committees. The biotech rider instead was introduced anonymously as the larger bill progressed — little wonder food activists are accusing lobbyists and Congress members of backroom dealings.

Monsanto has spent decades picking the US Department of Agriculture, Food and Drug Administration, and the Environmental Protection Agency with its own members. The USDA has never denied a single application for Monsanto’s genetically engineered crops. USDA chief Tom Vilsack briefly considered limiting Monsanto’s alfalfa planting to protect organic crops from contamination, but deregulated it entirely instead. In another win for the company, their controversial growth hormone for cows was approved under Michael Taylor, a former Monsanto lobbyist-turned-USDA-administrator-turned-FDA Deputy Commissioner, even though it was banned in the European Union, Japan, Australia, and Canada over health concerns.
Monsanto employee Margaret Miller oversaw a report on its safety, took a job at the FDA, and promptly approved her own report. Another Monsanto lobbyist, Islam Siddiqui, later wrote the USDA’s organic food standards, allowing irradiated and genetically modified foods to label themselves as organic. And Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, a Monsanto lawyer, will help decide a challenge to Monsanto’s GMO patents this year.
Despite having the full force of the government behind them, Monsanto’s products aren't working. Their herbicide-resistant genes, the major selling point for their sugar beets, corn, soybean, and alfalfa crops, is actually breeding “super-weeds” and possibly “super-worms” that have evolved to overpower the chemicals. When these GM crops were first introduced, Monsanto argued that the gene would let farmers cut down on the use of toxic pesticides and herbicides on their crops. As it turns out, farmers have started applying even heavier doses of the chemicals to combat these new strains of pests. Though their products aren't working, Monsanto has reaped abundant benefits from its own failure. In 2009, University of Illinois entomologist Michael Gray surveyed farmers in five areas of the state to ask if they had access to high-yielding non-GMO corn seed. He found nearly 40% said "no," while nearly half (46.6%) in Malta, IL said they did not have access to elite non-GMO corn hybrids. In Brazil, the Soja Livre or "Soy Free" program was launched by Embrapa, Brazil's leading agricultural research organization, along with several other groups. The program aims to breed non-GMO soybean varieties and "provide greater competitiveness to the production chain."
In India, the University of Agricultural Sciences Dharwad, bioRe India, Ltd., and Swiss-based Research Institute of Organic Agriculture launched a joint effort in 2011 "to re-establish the seed value chain for non-GM cotton." In South Africa, Visser also sees farmers returning to non-GMO seed because of insect resistance problems. "There seems to be a spark of interest from more and more farmers about non-GMO corn and soy seed," he said. "We've been yielding better in trials than most GMOs, and our products are more consistent. Our pricing is also much better than the GMO hybrids."

12/12/13- Connecticut gov signs first GMO labeling law in US
The Connecticut bill requires at least four other Northeastern states with a combined population of no fewer than 20 million to approve similar acts before it can officially go on the books. And while so far proponents of a GMO labeling initiative have found allies in one adjacent state, it could very well be a long-time coming before the proper support is rallied.

Russian scientists are calling for a 10-year moratorium on GMOs to thoroughly study their influence on human health, stressing that such examinations are vital.

1/13/14- Supreme Court hands Monsanto Victory
The US Supreme Court upheld biotech giant Monsanto’s claims on genetically-engineered seed patents and the company’s ability to sue farmers whose fields are inadvertently contaminated with Monsanto materials.
The high court left intact Monday a federal appeals court decision that threw out a 2011 lawsuit from the Organic Seed Growers and Trade Association and over 80 other plaintiffs against Monsanto that sought to challenge the agrochemical company’s aggressive claims on patents of genetically-modified seeds. The suit also aimed to curb Monsanto from suing anyone whose field is contaminated by such seeds.

2/3/14- Total ban on GM food production mulled in Russia
A group of Russian MPs have prepared a bill severely restricting imports of genetically modified agricultural produce, and completely banning its domestic production. The head of Russia’s Organic Farming Union, Yakov Lyubovedsky, holds that the passing of the bill would show if the Duma can defend the country’s independence and the interests of population. He also added that GMO was an experiment on humanity itself and that the industry could do very well without genetically-enhanced plants and animals.
The bill will be submitted to the lower house in two weeks’ time and its authors claim that its chances of passing are very high.

3/26/14- Right to Know Colorado GMO
An effort to put a ballot initiative in front of Colorado voters regarding the labeling of genetically modified foods was allowed to proceed after the state Supreme Court dismissed a challenge by biotech and food industry outfits.
For Initiative #48 to make it on the November ballot, supporters must now gather 86,105 petition signatures and turn them into the state by early August, according to Right to Know Colorado GMO. The grassroots group, which is responsible for the initiative, is made up of local farmers, organic food retailers, consumer advocates, and citizens concerned with the “basic right to know what is in our food and what we are feeding our families.”
"We are pleased that the state Supreme Court ruled in favor of the GMO labeling ballot title, and we look forward to bringing a GMO labeling initiative before the voters of Colorado this fall," said Larry Cooper of Right to Know.

4/12/14- US corn exports to China drop 85 percent after ban on GMO strains
China’s rejection of shipments of US corn containing traces of unapproved genetically modified maize has caused a significant drop in exports. According to a new report, US traders have lost $427 million in sales.
Overall, China has barred nearly 1.45 million tons of corn shipments since last year, the National Grain and Feed Association (NGFA), an American industry association, said Friday.

5/9/14- Vermont first state to require GMO labeling
Vermont will be the first state in the nation to require food manufacturers to label products containing genetically modified ingredients. It will also likely be the first state to defend the GMO labeling law in court, state officials say.
The fight ahead did not cloud a festive bill-signing on the Statehouse steps Thursday afternoon where more than 100 pro-labeling public health advocates, lawmakers and residents cheered in support of the landmark policy.
“Vermonters have spoken loud and clear: They want to know what’s in their food,” Gov. Peter Shumlin said. “We are pro-choice. We are pro-information. Vermont gets it right with this bill.”
The law requires food manufacturers selling in Vermont to label products containing genetically engineered ingredients starting July 1, 2016. These products can also no longer be labeled “natural” or “naturally made.”

First deputy chairman of the Agricultural Committee of the State Duma Kirill Cherkasov and a group of deputies of the LDPR made to Parliament a package of amendments - proposed to criminalize the dissemination of GMOs and to equate the activities related to GMOs and endanger the lives of people as a terrorist attack.
Degree criminal punishment MPs suggest determined using art. 205 of the Criminal Code "terrorist act" appropriately adding the third part of this article. Ie activities related to GMOs, which creates the danger of loss of life, can be equated with terrorism if it is proved that the perpetrators committed the offense intentionally. Such offenses are punishable by imprisonment for a term of 15 to 20 years or life imprisonment.

The deal is the largest corporate takeover in almost two decades for a German company.
German pharmaceuticals giant Bayer has agreed to buy American GMO company Monsanto for $128 a share. The acquisition values Monsanto’s equity at about $56 billion, but including debt, the deal is worth nearly $66 billion.
The acquisition of the leading GMO maker will make Bayer the world’s biggest seed and pesticide producer.
